The main photo booth types for events are open-air photo booths, green screen photo booths, 360 video stations and custom 3D photo moments. The right one depends on your crowd size, room layout and the kind of keepsake you want guests to leave with. Here’s how each type works, who it suits and how to choose, plus a quick quiz that matches you to a station.
Too many hosts treat the photo booth as an afterthought, and the result is a long line in a side hallway. Placed well, it becomes a social hub that gets guests laughing together and back to the dance floor. NYX Events is an event production company and entertainment partner serving the DMV, and we offer four photo booth options that each create a different kind of moment. Open-Air Photo Booths: The Social Classic
A modern open air photo booth swaps the cramped enclosed box for a sleek, open station, so the whole room sees the fun and groups fit comfortably in the frame. Every group pose draws the next group in, which keeps a steady flow all night. Each booking includes trendy props, an attendant, a backdrop in styles such as Disco Ball, Silver Sequin or Midnight Noir, and custom logo branding on your photos. Guests get their photos by text straight to their phones, and you receive a post-event digital gallery. Instant 2×6-inch or 4×6-inch prints are an optional upgrade.
Green Screen Photo Booth: Any Background, Anywhere
A green screen photo booth replaces the patterned backdrop with a green screen, and on-site software swaps in a digital background in seconds. Guests choose from up to six digital backgrounds, one scene per photo, so a travel-themed mitzvah can send guests to a tropical beach while a Hollywood-themed gala rolls out a red carpet premiere. Like the open-air station, it includes props, an attendant, text-to-phone delivery and custom logo branding. At corporate events, it also doubles as a quick portrait spot where attendees pick up a fresh headshot-style photo.
360 Photo Booth DC: The Orbital 360 Video Station
The 360 video station is the high-energy option. A couple of guests step onto a raised platform while a rotating camera circles them, capturing a slow-motion clip as they dance, toss props or strike a pose. The video is rendered right away with your event branding, then lands on guests’ phones by text or AirDrop. Planning a 360 photo booth in Washington DC? Set aside a level space of about 10 by 10 feet so the camera arm has room to move. Custom Photo Moment: The 3D Scenic Set
Custom Photo Moment is for hosts who want the photo spot itself to be part of the decor. We design and build a custom 3D photo box around your theme, with one to three walls branded using artwork you provide and an optional swing or seating element. It gives the ballroom a red-carpet focal point. The box is created for your event, so clients don’t keep any part of it.
Snow Globe, Vanity and Other Photo Booth Styles
You’ll run into a few other styles when you shop around. A snow globe photo booth places guests inside an oversized clear dome with falling-snow effects, a popular pick for winter holiday parties. A vanity photo booth is a lit, mirror-style portrait station built for individual close-ups, and a roaming photo booth follows guests through the room with a handheld camera. These styles sit outside the four stations in our current lineup. If one is on your wish list, bring it up in your discovery call and we’ll check availability for your event.
How to Choose the Right Photo Booth for Your Event
Start with what you want guests to do, then check your room.
- Big groups mingling: Choose the open-air photo booth. It fits groups in the frame and keeps the line moving.
- Themed or travel-inspired events: Choose the green screen photo booth. Up to six digital backgrounds let the theme carry into every photo.
- Packed dance floors: Choose the 360 video station. Slow-motion clips turn dancing into a moment guests want to replay.
- A decor focal point: Choose Custom Photo Moment. It turns the photo spot into part of the room design.
Event type matters too. Weddings often pair an open-air booth with cocktail hour, mitzvahs tend to go with any of the four options, and corporate events often favor green screen for its portrait use.
Placement matters as much as the booth. Put the station in the main room, ideally a visible corner near the perimeter, rather than hidden in a side room or hallway, so the energy stays connected to the party. Pairing a booth with your DJ or Emcee gives you cleaner execution and steady flow.
Secure your date early: six to twelve months ahead for corporate events, one to one and a half years ahead for weddings and one to three years ahead for mitzvahs. Our production team arrives hours before doors open to set up activations, and the entertainment team arrives one hour before the event starts.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between an open-air photo booth and a green screen photo booth?
An open-air photo booth uses a stylish physical backdrop, while a green screen booth swaps in one of up to six digital backgrounds, one scene per photo. Both include props, an attendant and instant text-to-phone delivery.
How much space does a 360 video station need?
Plan on a level space of about 10 by 10 feet. That gives the rotating camera room to move and keeps guest traffic clear of catering lines and exits.
Which photo booth type is best for a wedding, mitzvah or corporate event?
Open-air booths suit weddings and mixed-age crowds, mitzvahs tend to go with any of the four options, and green screen suits corporate events that want portraits. Your discovery call confirms the best fit for your room and guest list.
How far in advance should we reserve a photo booth?
Secure your date six to twelve months ahead for corporate events, one to one and a half years ahead for weddings, and one to three years ahead for mitzvahs. Photo booth activations get added once your date is locked.
